Many parents feel it is best not to travel by plane with their newborn. They would worry about their babys health if they travelled on a plane and some people would find it just too stressful of a journey. Take a good forward facing or rear facing car seat (whichever your child uses) as this will give you a little more space. Have a more simple and hassle free journey by following our tips and advice below: 1. Babies are allowed to travel by airplane at 2 weeks old but it is recommended to wait until they are 4-6 weeks old. The air conditioning system can circulate germs around the plane which is why you shouldn't let them on a plane until they are 4-6 weeks at least. It is advised speak to a doctor before the day of your flight if you or your child has an infection or a cough. 2. Hand luggage allowances on airplanes is minimal which is why we recommend only to take items you will be using or need during the travel, for example, nappies and nappy bags. The rest of your baby products that you will not need during the flight can go in the hold. 3. Remember that when packing nappy cream and products that are similar that they can only be in a tub smaller than 100ml. Multiple containers that can hold up to 100ml each can be used if you feel one container is not enough. Remember that all of those containers need to fit into one bag 1 litre in size. Remember that each person can only take one bag each. Everything else that won't fit into your hand luggage will need to go into your main luggage bag. 4. There are some very important items that aren't included in the rule above such as baby milk. 5. You are best to pack a bit more food that you think you may need in case the flight is delayed. 6. The ideal feeding method for your baby on the plane is breast-feeding. This could help pacify your baby during take-off and landing. 7. Ready made milk formula would be the best option for your if you prefer to feed your baby with the bottle. Formula can be fed at a normal room temperature. When travelling on a plane it much simpler for you to take disposable feeding bottles. 8. Your child might be allowed to sit on your lap during the journey without you paying a charge for them to be on the plane (not all airlines allow this and the age limits of the child varies). It may not be the most comfortable option for you though. Some airlines will allow your childs car seat to be brought on the plane but the problem with this is it usually means paying the full childs airfare charge for the plane seat. Your baby may even get to have their very own baggage allowance. Car seats for kids will most likely be included in their own baggage allowances. |
